IELTS

One of the two most basic requirements in migrating to Canada is to have our English and/or French language ability be evaluated through a third party language test from a designated agency by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). The principal applicant should take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Canadian English Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) for English and the Test d'evaluation de francais (TEF) for French to prove his ability in English and/or French in reading, listening, writing, and speaking.

In our case, it's only English and the only available exam in the Philippines is the IELTS. There are two agencies that are affiliated with IELTS here, namely the British Council and the IDP.  Fritz took his IELTS exam in Davao City on November 18 for his speaking test and November 19, 2016 for his listening, reading and writing tests conducted by British Council. All the four evaluations took place at the Grand Regal Hotel. His speaking test was scheduled at 2:20pm but he was accommodated by 2pm and it only lasted less than 15 minutes. He was very happy because our prayer that he will have a nice and kind interviewer was granted. The 3 written tests took almost 3 hours: listening for 40 mins, reading and writing for an hour each.

As a preparation, Fritz enrolled in a review center for a four week class setting review.  But after two weeks, he stop on going to the review center and decided to review on his own. According to him, he learned more in his self review because her instructor focus more on his classmates who will be taking an Academic exam. By the way, for immigration, applicant should take the General Training. On his self review, he watched some videos from Youtube specially from IELTS Liz, scanned through the Barron book and took the Cambridge practice tests available online.

He was quite nervous before and during his exams.  He needs to get a band score of not less than 6 in all four areas. Else, he need to retake the exam. But after the test, he was confident enough that he will pass it. And HE DID!
